This is the first of a two part panel discussion on the current state of the lake’s flora and fauna. The panel discuss the evolution of the lake from its formation to a state of highly managed flood control; its geology, flooding and the effects of a managed environment which has forever changed the ecology for plant and animal life.

John Rhodes is a tramper, cyclist, writer, photographer and amateur geologist who has lived in Wairarapa for 45 years
Ian Gunn has worked in and around Wairarapa Moana since the early 1980’s both as a regulator and manager. Recently he led the review of the Lower Wairarapa Valley Development Scheme rating classification and has been appointed to the role of Project Coordinator for the Wairarapa Moana Wetland Project to restore the lake.
Tony Silbery has extensive native horticulture experience and has been working as a biodiversity ranger for the Department of Conservation for the last 15 years. He has been working off and on at Wairarapa Moana over the last decade.
