Kingi Smiler and Kim Workman, two key players in the more recent history of Pouakani development discuss the transformation of the land into a highly productive Maori enterprise.

 Kingi Smiler is the current chair of Wairarapa Moana Inc which is the organisation that administers the land at Pouakani for the Wairarapa Maori owners.

Kim Workman QSO (of Ngati Kahungunu and Rangitaane descent) is a retired senior public servant. He was a member of the Committee of Management at Pouakani during the 1980s when the management of the farm lands was transferred from the Department of Maori Affairs to owner control.

Kim is a graduate of Massey University, the University of Southern California, and Stanford University.  He is a Senior Associate of the Institute of Policy Studies, Victoria University and in August 2008, was appointed as a Commissioner to the Families Commission.

In 2005, Kim was the joint recipient (with Jackie Katounas) of the International Prize for Restorative Justice and was made a Companion of the Queens Service Order in 2007.
