Judge Carrie Wainwright and Murray Hemi discuss the Wairarapa Treaty of Waitangi claims and in particular the Waitangi Tribunal recommendations relating to Wairarapa Moana.

Carrie Wainwright is now a District Court judge, but she was formerly a Maori Land Court judge and presiding officer of the Wairarapa ki Tararua district inquiry of the Waitangi Tribunal. Other members of the panel were Dame Margaret Bazley, Professor Wharehuia Milroy, and Professor Ranginui Walker. The inquiry reported in 2010, after hearings and site visits took place in the Wairarapa and Tararua earlier in the decade.

Murray Hemi is of Ngati Moe and Ngaiti Kaiparuparu descent. He has been working on Treaty claims issues in the Wairarapa for over 15 years. Local history is his greatest interest with much of his time in the past 25 years spent on collecting history and whakapapa associated with the South Wairarapa region. He is currently undertaking research on the development of the Pou-a-Kani lands, as well as assisting in the production of a book on the settlement history of the Wairarapa (1820 - 1900).
