A practical one day workshop giving representatives from museums, art galleries and iwi organisations the opportunity to learn more about the basics of preventative conservation, packaging, handling and storage solutions.

This workshop will cover:

environmental preventative conservation practice in museums, including:
addressing the 10 agents of deterioration
monitoring building spaces
monitoring relative humidity and temperature
managing light exposure
managing pests and mould.
practical and inexpensive solutions for the handling and display of objects and /or taonga
disaster preparedness, response and recovery.

Who will I meet?   

Vicki-Anne Heikell (No Te Whanau-a-Apanui) is the Field Conservator at the Alexander Turnbull Library. Vicki-Anne provides training and advice in the preservation of archives items and collections to individuals, groups, iwi/Maori and organisations throughout New Zealand and operates under the auspices of the National Preservation Office Te Tari Tohu Taonga (NPO).  Vicki-Anne runs workshops and seminars on the care and preservation of documentary heritage.  Previous to this role Vicki-Anne worked for 10 years at Te Papa as a paper conservator, and in that role undertook preservation workshops with National Services Te Paerangi.
