The exhibition “Sibylle Bergemann. Photographs” presents the complete work of one of the leading contemporary German photographers. The photographs of Berlin-born Sibylle Bergemann are awe-inspiring both for the diversity of their subject matter and for their astonishing insights and sensitivity. From fashion to photo reportage, or photographic essays, from portraits to urban and rural landscapes, Bergemann’s mastery of all these genres is equally self-assured. First known as a fashion photographer, she fast became noted for her photographic essays and her precise observations of hidden contexts.
The exhibition, presented by the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations ifa, shows the full range of her entire work in 125 photographs, including the following series: Fashion; Women; Dream Factory, Photographs relating to Wenzel Storch's film, Die Reise ins Glück (The Journey to Happiness); Berlin; Away From Home; Places; Girls; Africa – Arabia; Transformed, 1997/2001; Polaroids; Das Denkmal (A Monument).
