Ngā Aho Raranga – Textiles from the Taonga Māori Collection

Aratoi holds a large collection of taonga Maori, entrusted to our care by Maori and Pakeha families. Many of the woven taonga – korowai, kete and piupiu - had been owned by local families since the 1800s.

The exhibition will feature kahu kiwi (kiwi feather cloaks), taniko and feathered kete, candlewick cloaks made for a WWI fundraiser, and contemporary tukutuku panels created for Aratoi by local marae when the museum opened in 2002.
