A selection of portraits from the collections held at Aratoi.
The collections contain their share of images of important people, ancestors/tipuna, artists’ family members and friends, and the occasional self-portrait. The paintings can be the fruit of family connections and friendships, as with the Evelyn Page portrait of Elespie Prior, or a commissioned record of a person of mana, as with the tipuna portraits of Gottfried Lindauer. All offer a glimpse into that person and their world.
