Course content
Introduction and housekeeping
Learning intentions
Students will be taught how to fold, bend, saw, solder, texture, sand, polish, stamp shapes and colour metal by oxidisation or gold plating.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to complete the above techniques unsupervised.
Projects
Project 1:
Students work in sheet copper to make simple fold-form earrings with an oxidised finish with silver wire or hook fitting.
Project 2:
Students use saws and files to produce a half-textured half-polished pair of leaf inspired earrings in sterling silver. The polished side gets a spot of gold plate to enhance the dazzle.
Project 3:
Students are free to design drop earrings with small silver or copper beads (called granulation) soldered on as part of the design.
Project 4:
Making a ring A square shank twist ring with square wire or copper silver round wire twist mix.
Project 5:
A little bit of freedom to play and use your new skills if time permits.
Students should bring an apron or other protective clothing. Students are requested to bring a pencil and small sketch pad if possible.
Course evaluation and close at 4pm.
