Location
Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History Foyer

A free lunchtime floor talk about painter Douglas MacDiarmid.

November is the centenary of acclaimed expatriate painter Douglas MacDiarmid’s birth in Taihape on 14 November 1922. Although he lived much of his life in Paris, France – sought out by clients around the world – he never forgot his beginnings and returned to New Zealand regularly to visit and exhibit.

Known for his mastery of colour and diverse approach, Douglas is well represented in Aratoi’s art collection – with all nine of his works hanging in the foyer for the month as part of the MacDiarmid Centenary Art Trail tribute from Dunedin to Auckland.

His Australian biographer and niece, Anna Cahill is travelling the art trail. She will be in Masterton on 11 November to talk about the life and art of this charming, unforgettable man, and answer any questions.
