The Pop up Museum is off to Carterton Library with a beautiful sketchbook from local artist Alice Hosking.
Alice Hosking, as well as being the wife of Dr William Hosking, pioneer of medicine in the Wairarapa (but that’s another story), was an artist – a carver and painter of botanical studies. Aratoi has 5 sketchbooks of these studies with many being of plants found in the Tararua Ranges, including this drawing of Alpine Senecio.
Aratoi director, Sarah McClintock will be discussing Alice Hosking and why women were instrumental in the study of native plants on Sunday, 14 September, 1pm at Carterton Library.
