Lamp, Greece, unglazed ceramic

Greek oil lamp, terracotta colour - chipped.

Fan, Circa 1750, bone, printed ink and watercolour on paper, metal (brass)

Folding fan with printed and painted battle scene, possibly the battle of Culloden of 1746.  A seated General receives the surrender of two soldiers.   Double paper leaf, printed and painted in watercolour.  bone sticks and guards, carved.  Bone washer with brass rivet.

Buttons, 1821, linen thread, cardboard

Seven handmade Dorset buttons stitched to a piece of yellow card and attached to a secondary card support. Typewritten on paper attached to the secondary support "HAND WORKED LINEN BUTTONS / 1821"  A Dorset button is a style of craft-made button originating in the English county of Dorset. Their manufacture was at a peak between 1622 and 1850, after which they were overtaken by machine-made buttons from factories in the developing industries of Birmingham and other growing cities.

Sampler, silk thread on wool cloth on linen covered card secondary support

Sampler depicting the biblical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.  The central motif is of the Tree with a coiled serpent and Adam and Eve on either side.  There is an inscription and a number of spot motifs which include hearts, flowers and birds.  The sampler is worked in coloured silks on an even weave wool cloth.  It has been worked predominately in cross stitch with some french knots and straight stitching to create the hair of Adam and Eve.  Some of the stitching has been built up to provide a 3D quality on the limbs of the figures.

Framed needlepoint on canvas image of a boy and girl. Girl is sitting with a musical instrument in her lap. Boy is standing. Clothing could suggest age of needlepoint or be costumes from another era.
