Ill Humour is a selection of videos by multimedia artist Ronnie Van Hout, featuring himself as the performer in various guises. “They are all dealing with the idea of the Abject…fear arising from the separation of the self from the other or…the separation of the object from the image,” he says. Humour and self-effacement are never far away, with his personas ranging from a zombie to the “drunk chimp”. Born in Christchurch in 1962, Ronnie has exhibited regularly in New Zealand and Australia since 1981, held international artist residencies, and his work has featured in solo and group shows in the USA, Netherlands, Austria and Germany. In 2003 his work was the subject of a major touring survey show, I've Abandoned Me, an initiative of Dunedin Public Art Gallery. He was a finalist in the Walters Prize Art Award in 2004, and is an  Arts Foundation Laureate
