ACROSS THE DITCH: Maelyn Charlton

Aotearoa Art Practitioner Maelyn Charlton provides a pertinent comment on migrational movement between New Zealand and Australia.

Charltons collage pieces are a representation of a rapidly increasing cultural interchange, using printed textiles from a time when New Zealand was presented as a Wonderland of the South Pacific and Australia the bigger, faster Land of Dreaming. Indigenous wildlife and motifs appeared as printed information on table cloths, tea towels, placemats, cushions, scarves and other textile souvenirs.  The artist provides an insight into the rapid migration of those of us who have become known as phantom Aussies, those of us who dare to cross the ditch.
